SMS Consent & Opt-In Policy

This page documents how SharpSharks collects opt-in consent for SMS notifications. SMS messaging is a strictly optional, off-by-default feature. We never message you unless you have completed the consent flow described below.

1. What You're Opting Into

If you complete the opt-in flow, SharpSharks may send you SMS text messages to the phone number you verify. Available alert categories are:

We do not send marketing or promotional SMS. All alert categories are off by default and must be individually enabled by you.

2. How You Provide Consent (the Opt-In Flow)

SMS consent is collected on the SharpSharks Settings page (/settings) after a user has signed in. The flow has four explicit steps that must each be completed by the user:

  1. Enter phone number. The user types their mobile phone number in E.164 format (e.g. +15551234567) into the "Phone Number" field on the Settings page.
  2. Tick the consent checkbox. Before any verification SMS can be sent, the user must check a checkbox labeled exactly:
    I agree to receive recurring SMS messages from SharpSharks at the number above. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. Frequency varies based on alert settings. Consent is not a condition of purchase. See SMS Consent Policy and Privacy Policy.
    The checkbox is required — the "Verify" button is disabled until it is checked. The exact checkbox state is timestamped and stored against the user's account.
  3. Receive verification code. SharpSharks sends a one-time 6-digit code to the entered phone number via SMS. The verification SMS contains the text: "SharpSharks: Your verification code is XXXXXX. Reply STOP to cancel. Msg&data rates may apply."
  4. Enter the code. The user types the 6-digit code back into the Settings page. Only after the code is verified does the phone number become eligible to receive alert SMS. Even after verification, no alerts are sent until the user separately toggles individual alert categories on AND toggles the master alert switch on.

Frequency depends on which alert categories the user enables and on real-time market conditions. Typical volumes:

7. Data & Privacy

Your phone number is stored encrypted at rest and is used solely to deliver SMS you have opted into. We do not share, sell, or rent phone numbers to third parties. SMS delivery is performed via Twilio under their privacy policy. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
